Will a SSD and HDD work together at the same time? I plan to buy a SSD in the near future, and I still have my 150 GB Raptor that I want to keep. Is it possible to have a SSD as a Windows drive and a mechanical hard drive working inside the same computer at the same time if they're both SATA II? I've heard horror stories that SSD's and HDD's won't play nice if both are internal drives and both are SATA II. | My System Specs |

Of course they work together. I wonder from where you get the "horror stories". The classic SSD setup is actually using the SSD for the system and move the user files to the HDD. That way you can get away with a 30GB SSD which costs less than $100. Expect Windows7 to require about 18GB ( and that includes a healthy set of programs installed) with the hibernate file removed but the page file on the SSD (which I recommend).
Here is mine - I actually have 2 partitions on this 80GB Intel. I keep most of my data in the other SSD partition. This is the status after 5 months of usage:
And look with how many HDD partitions it cooperates. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

I got another question. I'm not sure of the difference between 2.5in and 3.5in, since the SSD's I'm looking at are 2.5in while my Raptor is 3.5in. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i5-2500K Motherboard Gigabyte P67X-UD3-B3 Memory 8 GB Corsair Vengeance Blue DDR3-1600 Graphics Card Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1 GB GDDR5 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster T220HD Screen Resolution 1680x1050 PSU Corsair 650W Hard Drives 120 GB Corsair Force SSD + 320 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA2 + 2 TB My Book Elite Internet Speed 50 Mbps |

The SSDs are all 2.5" (except a few rare ones that are 1.8"). In order to put them into the 3.5" bays, you need that kind of bracket.

I'm looking at the Intel X25-V 40GB drive for roughly $145 CDN before tax. If you have your mind set on that specific drive, then get it at TigerDirect and save some serious cash: CLICK ME
I've been dealing with TigerDirect for years now, and their service is impecable, and so is their 24/7 customer service. Personally, I would have chosen an OCZ drive, because I love their products, but to each their own. Just thought I would provide a link to save you about $30.00, and from an extremely reliable company. *EDIT*
Both have the same 3 year warranty provided by Intel as well. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number NVIDIA OS Windows 7 Enterprise x64 CPU AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core 3800+ Motherboard GeForce 6100-M9 Memory OCZ Platinum Dual Channel - 4x1Gb Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT PCI Express x16 Sound Card Creative Audigy Sound Blaster Extreme PCI Monitor(s) Displays Compaq 7500 Screen Resolution 1024x768 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Radio Shack PS2 PSU OCZ 600w Dual 12v Rails Case Thermaltake Cooling OCZ Heatsinks, Fans, and Thermal Paste on CPU & Chipsets Hard Drives C: Seagate ST3250318AS SataII - 250Gb
