    USB 2 / USB 3 Question

    Hello,

Can USB 3 Ports on a new pc be used with all the older USB gadgets that were plugged into the USB 2 Ports originally on an older pc ?

O.K. To use USB 2 cables if not worried about achieving the faster speed of USB 3

I realize the faster speed of the 3 won't be realized, but any other potential problems ?
Is 3 fully backward compatible with 2 ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hello Bob,

Yep, USB 3.0 ports are fully backwards compatible with older USB 2.0 devices and cables. :)

    I believe so.
in fact, before purchasing a USB3.0 card, I looked around on forums for info about the speeds to be expected (only 2-4x faster than USB2.0, sadly) I saw someone noting that they thought their USB2.0 device worked a fraction faster in the 3.0 port (though not 3.0 speeds). So, I've been using my 1.5TB USB2.0 drive in my spare 3.0 port with no problems (I don't know how to benchmark and graph things, so I have no idea if there is any performance increase to my doing it, I only know it hasn't resulted in any problems).
