Windows 7: T42 Max RAM is 2x1GB, but can i 1x2gb?

Hello, I'm looking to install Windows 7 onto my lenovo t42 2378 reu. I ran the Windows 7 upgrade advisor, which said that the only things wrong with my hardware is that it is DirextX 9 so I can't run Aero ( a memory hog any-ways), and that I need 1GB ram min, which I have 512mb. I checked online and the maximum amount of RAM this thing can support is 2x1GB, but I'm wondering if it will accept a 2gb dimm in one slot only, as I tried to fit a DDR2 dimm in the secondary slot damaging it (DDR1 ram needed).

No you can't place a 2GB stick in a computer which only accepts 2 x 1GB sticks. Atleast as far as I know. There could be a work around, but I doubt it.

my I9400 supposedly only accepts 2x1gb ,i am now running 2x2gb so i would suggest giving it a try, you may or maynot need a bios update, aero should run on d9 and above

Well I checked and it seems as if there is no such thing as a 2gb DDR1.
I think the bottom slot is still usuable, but I don't have the laptop here.
