Why does win 7 keep wanting to format hdd

Hi,

I when I plug in my external hdd into my windows machine I get a message telling me that need to fornat the drive. This is a bit strange since the drive works on other machines and sometimes even works on this one...

Any help much apppreciated...

It sounds like either the USB port or drive itself is failing.

Try the drive in another port.

Yes but other things work fine, and its happening in all of the ports.. Could it be the drive mapping or something?

Is the file system on your external hdd FAT32? In that case, try backing up the data on that drive and then format to NTFS with win7.
