    registry change before changing motherboard?

On a Win XP machine you could delete the registry keys under HKLM\Enum as the last step before removing the MB and when the new MB was installed the Plug & Play would install the your hardware drivers and properly configure the new MB.

Is there a similar process that will work with Win 7? There is no HKLM\Enum key in Win 7 registry. There is a HKLM\System\Control Set 001\Enum.

Is this a replacement of the same model of motherboard? I didn't go through all of that when I replaced my Intel MB due to the SATAII recall. I simply installed the new motherboard with the mode jumper in Config, made some BIOS mods for AHCI for my SSD and few other changes. Went through the powerdown, jumper move then fired it back up. Windows promptly started detecting the hardware and loading the drivers. Windows activation went right through and I was back up and running in about 10 minutes. Didn't even need my OEM DVD, just the key.

Virtually the same motherboard. Only difference is the new MB has USB 3 -which is the reason I'm making the change. I checked the MB user manual and cannot find anything about a "mode jumper". Was that something unique to your MB?
