Memorex Flash Drive NOT recognized.

I just installed Windows 7 and it is not recognizing my flash drive. I suspect part of the problem is the U3 Launchpad. When I located a drive in Explorer, I tried to access it but it said u3dapi10.dll is missing and to re-install it. I believe that came from the U3 software on the flash drive, but it apparently isn't working correctly.

I'm not very familiar with these kinds of problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you access the drive from another computer? If you can, do so and format it to NTFS. Then try again via the Windows 7 computer. Most if not all flash drives should connect to windows automatically. They kind of have to. They'd be completely useless if you had to install drivers for each one.

Uninstall the Launchpad from windows...
Does it work now?

And don't be reformatting the flash drive.
They should be on FAT32 as most are when they come out of the factory.

I had a similar problem ages ago with U3 and Vista 64 bit.
I can't remember what I tried but I researched it and got nowhere.
Eventually I removed U3.
Perhaps I would have tried harder but I couldn't see much point to U3 anyway; it wasn't something I needed.
Sorry, pretty unhelpful reply really

You do realize that a flash drive will be about twice as fast on Fat32 as on NTFS...

Thank you everyone! I fixed it by uninstalling U3. The good news is I was able to utilize my flash drives from my laptop (Windows 7), the bad news is the flash drives are no longer password protected. Not a huge problem, but that was the one feature I liked (and only feature I used) from the U3 software.

Thanks again!

Thought you might end up doing that. Look here for alternatives to U3 for password protection:
