Windows 7: old scanner not working anymore in window 7

I have a HP scanjet 5200C, and have recently upgraded to window 7, I went to the HP site and they only have driver up to XP to this scanner.

Is there a way to get the scanner working?

any input would highly appreciated, if there's no way of getting this old scanning to work then I'll get have to get a new scanner, recommend me some that would work with Windows 7.

Hi and welcome.

try this.1) download VueScan:
HP ScanJet 5200C for windows vista - for vista driver

2) Install VueScan (it's free if you want the basic features)

3) then go to device manager and right-click on HP ScanJet 5200c and auto update the scanner driver (make sure you have uninstalled any HP drivers for scanner first)

4) Open VueScan and scan as usual.
then cross your fingers, lol

VueScan works fine, but is leaves $ sign watermark all over the page, is the only way of removing it by purchasing the full version?

I had the same scanner...never did get it to work. I even called HP; we have a Gold Account with them for Servers. They had me try all kinds of things nothing worked. I had it working a bit but then Windows would crash or I had to reboot. You are just better off buying a new scanner. I bought an Epson v300 photo for $65 on line. It is 10x faster than the HP and does a much better job. Don't waste your time as I did, just get a new scanner.

wow, you got it really cheap, the same scanner would cost $240 here in Australia.

anyways, i torrented the pro version of vuescan, it's all good now.

in every copy room corner, we have old XP running the HP 5200C scanjet. Never able to make this scanner to work on any other system because this HP drivers are extremely poor. This is fantastic negative advertising warning everybody in this entire building and every branch offices across the country, beware of HP stuff, because this is excellent example NOT to select HP stuff.
