Hey i just got a new Western Digital 500GB Caviar Green Hard Drive, and it will show up in my computer, but will not show up in my Windows 7 Installation screen. I currently have 2 hard drive's in my machine the 500GB and a 320GB, and Windows 7 is installed on my 320GB Hard Drive. How would I make the 500GB Hard Drive show up in the installation, so that I can install Windows 7 to it?

Did you use the WD Lifeguard software to format and partition this disc? Register the drive with serial number on WD's site and you can have access to all sorts of other free and useful software. I believe the lifeguard is openware and works with all manufacturers drives.

I think you also need to go into the 'Disk Management' screen and assign it a drive letter .. type 'partition' in the search bar to get there.

Go to diskmanagement and delete the volume and leave it as unallocated space - first make sure it has been initialized - just open help if you need it - basically just right click the drive and you can see the options. Then during install create a partition in the unallocated space and install to it.

If you want to install Windows 7 on a new drive, just set that drive as the first boot device in the BIOS. You shouldn't have to do any of the above suggestions. You don't have to format [partition] or initialize a HDD to install Windows on it.

just a suggestion. remove the 320 drive and replace with the 500. do not connect the 320 just as yet. now try if you can install 7 with the 320 removed.;)
