Rescued from The TIP sony VAIO - 32 or 64 BIT CPU

    Hi all
I've "Rescued" an old very clunky Laptop from "The TIP" and am going to clean it up, install a larger HD in it and then pass it on to a "Schools Project".

The Laptop has 1GB RAM in it and a P4 processor. Anyway of knowiing quickly if this is a 64 BIT processor or not before I try and install the OS.

(Note I have to repair the internal DVD device -- not a problem as it's only the "Bevel plastic strip" on the outside but until I have done that I can't do the obvious like Boot up and see).

Laptop model is sony vaio PCG-GRT816S -- it's a real POWER HOG (probably why P4 was never popular in Laptops) but where I live power is the one commodity that's both CHEAP and PLENTIFUL.

Can't find anything on Google on this.

If it's a 32 BIT processor then I'll just have to download 7100 X86 but hoping to avoid that.

    Cheers
    jimbo.

I don't have my W7 system here at work but I was surprised to find my Pentium 4 WAS 64 bit capable. I think if you go to computer properties and find a link there to view and print the system properties, it will tell you "64 bit capable" "yes" or "no" I hope it's there in computer properties. Maybe in the WEI. I know some of the P4's are 64 bit.

Edit: It IS in the WEI page. It's the link "view and print detailed system information" it will tell you there. Hope this helps.
