Disable touchpad

I've got the HP Pavilion dm3 1020ed.

It has a button to disable and enable my touchpad. Unfornately this won't work...

How can I create an other shortcut to disable / enable my touchpad? (or fix this button)

Thank you!

What touchpad software do you have installed? In Synaptics or Alps, you should be able to click on the driver icon in the system tray or on mouse settings in control panel, then go to the device settings tab and disable the touchpad from there.

Its in the Device settings tab.

Quote:
Access the properties of the Synaptics Pointing Device by right-clicking on the system tray icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If you do not see the icon, open your Control Panel and select the "Performance and Maintenance" option. Click "System", then "Hardware", then "Device Manager" to view the devices on your computer. Open the "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" selection.

Step 2
Click on the "Device Settings" tab of the "Mouse Properties" window. The "Device Settings" tab is at the top of the window and located farthest to the right.

Step 3
Highlight the Synaptics Touchpad from the list of available pointing devices. Click the "Disable" button underneath the list. Click "OK" on the pop-up menu to confirm your selection. Click "OK" on the Mouse Properties window to close the window. Your Synaptics Touchpad will now be disabled.

Hi everyone. I'm pretty pleased with W7, having replaced Vista on my Dell Inspiron 1720 (32 bit) laptop. What I cannot do, however, is disable the touch pad - there is no mechanism in the Control Panel. I can only alter settings for the attached mouse. Can you tell me how to disable the touch...
