What touchpad software do you have installed? In Synaptics or Alps, you should be able to click on the driver icon in the system tray or on mouse settings in control panel, then go to the device settings tab and disable the touchpad from there.
Just before I posted here, I installed Synaptics.. I don't know what I had before. I can't create a keyboard shortcut or use that button with synaptics as well...
Access the properties of the Synaptics Pointing Device by right-clicking on the system tray icon at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If you do not see the icon, open your Control Panel and select the "Performance and Maintenance" option. Click "System", then "Hardware", then "Device Manager" to view the devices on your computer. Open the "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" selection.
Step 2
Click on the "Device Settings" tab of the "Mouse Properties" window. The "Device Settings" tab is at the top of the window and located farthest to the right.
Step 3
Highlight the Synaptics Touchpad from the list of available pointing devices. Click the "Disable" button underneath the list. Click "OK" on the pop-up menu to confirm your selection. Click "OK" on the Mouse Properties window to close the window. Your Synaptics Touchpad will now be disabled.
