Windows 7: processor dell c521 upgrade help

Hello everybody i own a dell c521 but my processor broke for it so im buying a new one but i heard that you need a bios update to use the amd athlon 64 3.0ghz. I have 4gigs of ram and a galaxy 9600gt low pro gfx card but im afraid if i buy this new cpu the bios wouldnt accept it what should i do i want a powerful dual core

The best processor for your system is an Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 89w (not the 125w). It's hard to find since they are no longer made, but with the latest BIOS update this processor will work well with your system.

Most of the Brisbanes, which came out after the Windsors, do not work since they are not included in any of the BIOS updates. I have read were some people have gotten them to work by flashing an older version of the BIOS. Personally I would stick with trying to find a 89w Windsor.

Thank you but i cant update the bios if the processor is broken because if i put a processor in tht requires a newer bios rev wont i need to have the computer work in order for tht to happen cuz without the cpu this thing wont turn on at all

Yes you're right that is a catch 22. Do you remember what BIOS revision your system was at?
