    DVD Drive or Disc itself?

Hello, I am running a Compaq Presario CQ61 Notebook PC.

The problem I am having right now is, I recently purchase this exact laptop, and what I am trying to do is extract files from my DVD-RW that I burned from my last Vista laptop. Sometimes, I can drag and drop small-sized files, and when it comes to larger files over 1 GB, then the disc starts to make a tapping noise or skipping noise, I do not know if it's the drive or the disc.

I tried using other programs such as MagicISO, DVD Decryptor, etc., but unfortunately, non of those programs worked as they kept doing the same error. On Vista, I burned my files to my DVD-RW disc using Cyberlink Power2Go and I don't know if that program made the disc write-protected. I did get that message one time. But I do not know what to do at this point. Help will very much be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It could be either. does other dvd read correctly? have you tried cleaning the drive with canned air?
