Ram problem.

I noticed my netbook had a virus, so I said eff it. I went out and got home preimum for it. GOOD STUFF, boots fast, MY RAM IS DEAD. On xp I had 1.5, suddenly even in my bios it shows 512mb. Its a netbook so thats the integrated. Does ram just die? I noticed its been really hot even when off lately. Can ram just burn out?

edit: ripped it apart. The ram fell out some! Windows shows 1.5gb now. Thank god. But could it really have just burned out?
