    Windows Explorer not responding

I'm having a problem with my CD burner and DVD burner. Yes, two drives. When I insert a disk in either one the icon in My Computer does not change appearance. If I double left click either drive, the little "blue thing" goes round and round, finally after several minutes a window pops up telling me to put a disk in the drive. That's one scenario. The next scenario is if I click on one of my HHD while the little "blue thing" is going around I get a message that Windows Explorer is NOT responding.
Both drives are working normally as far as "device manager" is concerned. Both drives have been set to play the software if a software program is inserted.
I don't know where else to look.

That "blue thing" is windows way of telling you it is busy. It may be you dont have enough ram, or have too many apps open.

One way to find out is to open event viewer (type eventvwr in search) go to the windows log>application tab.

Look for things like app hang, app crash, or anything related.

If you find them (and you will) let us know the Event ID and source code.

let us know if you need help

Thanks, Ken, for the assist. I have 2gb ram and only about 50% used. No apps running. I took some screen shots, attached, of the various logs in event viewer. Five of them. The Windows log did not show me anything.
I was able to create the error again. I right clicked on the dvd drive icon and the busy signal came on, stayed on until I left clicked the Csystem) drive. At this point the Windows Explore became "not responding".
    That's it for now.

After providing the info requested in the form of screen shots and the error code of 1002 I have not heard from anybody. I'm going to reinstall W7. Have to restore an old image of WXP so I can work the Windows Explorer to install W7. The auto start of the W7 installation disk only goes so far as the blue screen and then stops. I cannot access the disk files while in W7 without getting a WE not responding error, so have to restore XP and start all over.

Finally fixed. MoBo Asus M2n-VM-DVI was incompatible. Tried two of them.
Installed a M3A78-EM Asus MoBo and everything OK.
