Incremental upgrade - MB first?
As a retiree funds are limited and I am considering upgrading in stages. I have an AM2+ Athlon 64 X2 and 4GB DDR2 ram. My MB is pretty basic (limited USB and no firewire or fan controllers).
The board I'm looking at is the Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H. It is still DDR2 so I can use my Ram but being an AM3 board is it backwardly compatible with my CPU? Initial reading suggests it is but I'd like someone more knowledgable to confirm.
My thinking is the PC is fast enough for Photoshop but I'd like the extra features mentioned. At some time I could upgrade the CPU. I realise I am stuck with DDR2, USB2, SATA3 etc but I'm not an early adopter.
I'm open to alternative boards around the $100 mark.
