If Windows XP detected several errors when accessing DVDs, the access mode was dropped from DMA to PIO. The (only?) way to recover was to uninstall the DVD
driver and reboot. XP would detect new hardware and (generally) install the right
driver, restoring DMA mode.
Does the same degradation occur in Windows 7? And how is DMA mode restored here?
Is it the same for DVD drives with SATA interfaces?
