    Problem with DVD-ROM

    Hello folks.

I've been searching frantically for an answer to this but I cannot find one anywhere so I thought I'd enlist and try and get some help from you lovely people.

    My problem is this:

On my laptop which I'm using now I have a DVD-ROM with read/write capabilities. However, over the past week or so I've noticed it is not allowing me to burn disc's.

I first thought it may be because the laptop is getting on a bit (3 years in December) but I've recently noticed that it's because my DVD-ROM is for some reason showing up as a BD-ROM (Blu-ray player).

I've tried un-installing the drivers, fiddling with them, running diagnostic checks, etc., but nothing seems to be changing it back or even giving me some help on the situation.

Can anyone give me a hand? I need to burn some disc's pretty sharpish for work so could really do with the help.

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Mark H.

P.S. Here's a photo, but the quality isn't great as it's from Twitpic.

Uninstall the drive from DM. Restart your laptop and wait for Windows to install the drivers for you.

BTW, the pic you have hosted is inaccessible.

You probably have a Virtual Drive installed.

Try uninstalling the virtual drive, Then go into Device Manager and unistall your DVD-ROM drivers and then reboot.

dre@ms, I'm extremely confused here. I've uninstalled and rebooted, and nothing different happens. If you can all ponder further while I give it another shot.

Here's another picture, this one should work.

Well, I've just tried to run Windows Update and nothing has happened.

Also, the 'BD-ROM' has appeared in My Computer again.

I've also tried using a program called Driver Fetch but to no avail.

    Developments:

I've managed to get rid of the mysterious BD-ROM drive, which it seems was caused by Daemon Tools Lite.

However, I now have the problem that my DVD drive is completely vanished and non-existent on my laptop. I've tried installing everything possible (including the popular CDGONE reg fix) and but it still seems to be invisible.

    Any idea's?

Use the Add Hardware Wizard. Type hdwwiz in the search box and hit enter

Tews, that didn't work. The Wizard states that there is no new hardware to install.

    EDIT:

Am I going to have to crack the laptop open and re-plug the connections?
