Android phones rocketed to the No. 2 position for smartphones sold in the U.S. last quarter, the NPD Group reports. Android phones nabbed 28% of the market compared with 21% for the iPhone.

A local news radio station (KNX, 1070 AM) has a tech show that runs Saturday afternoons. They were talking about this. They stated that this thing is kind of misleading as Android OS appears on multiple phones from multiple carriers versus AT&T solely for the iPhone, which Apple only makes one of as well. Also skewing the numbers, as they stated, is the fact that some carriers and/or manufacturers are offering BOGO offers that make the Android count rise versus Apple and AT&T who do not have any such offer that matches. Lastly, it was stated, that the new iPhone release is looming right around the corner--maybe next month? So, potential buyers are putting off iPhone purchases until the new model comes out--which might give Apple a big boost in sales numbers. They also speculated that iPhone only being on AT&T might be a problem too--so the speculation that Verizon might be added as a carrier of iPhone, which would also help Apple's numbers to increase.
I'm just reporting what I heard... I don't own an iPhone or an Android phone either.
It's Apple's own doing that the iPhone OS is only available on one phone. If it was available on more phones, maybe the story would be different or nonexistent at this point.
I dont know..I have a Iphone. I had a HTC running Windows 6.5 and a blackberry. I looked at the Android and its OS seemed like a toy. Wasent impressed at all. So after I got tired of the Blackberry i got a Iphone.
Personaly I really dont care for Apple but the Iphone has made my life a lot easier. From the Calendar to the adress book to web browsing(for free) I havent had a better experience. I have been watching for the Win7 mobile release with interest. I would like to try that HTC HD2. But you should see and hear how Ironman 2 plays on my Iphone it's awesome.
