missing: almost 45 gb of hard drive space hi peoples! i need a bit of help: for some reason, my computer is telling me that my spare harddrive has less memory than there should be. the hdd is an old 160gb drive, which in reality has 149gb. after filling up the drive with 70gb of backup, it shows that i have 35 gb left. so where did the other 45 gb go? i highlighted all the files with CRTL+A, but it still only showed 70gb.

I suggest using TreeSizeFree to figure out where all the space is going. it's a free download, very small and is a simple executable (thus nothing to install) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built in July 2009 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q9550 2.83Ghz OC'd to 3.40Ghz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R rev. 1.1, F12 BIOS Memory 8GB G.Skill PI DDR2-800, 4-4-4-12 timings Graphics Card EVGA 1280MB Nvidia GeForce GTX570 Sound Card Realtek ALC899A 8 channel onboard audio Monitor(s) Displays 23" Acer x233H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard ABS M1 Mechanical Mouse Logitech G9 Laser Mouse PSU Corsair 620HX modular Case Antec P182 Cooling stock Hard Drives Intel X25-M 80GB Gen 2 SSD

well, ive run windirstat before, and checking it again now, its telling me exactly the same information as before: nothing. it says that i have a total of 105 gb (69 used, 36 free, which adds up to 105), which makes no sense since if i get the properties of the drive, it says 'capacity: 149gb', 'used: 112 gb', and 'free 36.6gb'. the only point windirstat and the computer agree on is that there are 36.6/7 gb free | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built, Lenovo T410 OS 7 Ultimate x64, Windows 7 Enterprise x64 CPU Intel Q6600 @ 3.33 GHz, Intel i5 @ 2.53 GHz Motherboard ASUS P5Q Pro, Lenovo 2522DY1 Memory OCZ Gold 800 4GB, Some sort of RAM 4GB Graphics Card GeForce GT240, NVIDA NVS 3100M Monitor(s) Displays H213H Screen Resolution 1900 x 1080, 1440 x 900 Mouse Logitec G9x, Ultranav PSU ISO-450 Case Sunbeam ACIII-T Transparent Clear Acrylic ATX Mid Tower Cooling Spin Q Hard Drives Seagate 2 Tb

Windirstat is showing you the size of your drive as windows sees it (the partition size.)
Right-click on my computer, then click manage. Go to "disk management" and take a screenshot of that. Post the screenshot here and we will be able to tell you what is going on. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Black_Box (homebuilt) OS windows 7 RTM x64 CPU Phenom II 965 Quad Core 3.4Ghz Motherboard Asus M4A79T Deluxe Memory Mushkin Blackline 8GB (4x2gb) Graphics Card XFX Radeon 5970 Black Edition Sound Card onboard Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2408WPF-main Dell E248WFP-secondary Screen Resolution 1920x1200-main 1920x1200-secondary Keyboard Logitech MX 5500 wireless keyboard Mouse Razor Copperhead PSU XFX 850w Black Edition (Modular) Case Mountian Mods H2go Cooling CoolITSystems ECO A.L.C. Lets have a look into your shadowstorage situation. Open an elevated Command Prompt (run as admin) and type vssadmin list shadowstorage. For C, you get 3 numbers: Used, Allocated and Maximum. Post those 3 numbers or the cmd window. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway - 2 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista and Windows7, sometimes Ubuntu and Fedora CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to 2.5GHz Quad Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse terrible devices, who wants them Hard Drives 5x HDD, 2x SSD, 6x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 missing: almost 45 gb of hard drive space problems?
