Please do kegobeer! .. I'm struggling with networking my Canon printer at the moment.

Edit: .. I just d'loaded the latest drivers from Canon, and they do indeed sort out networking .. there's a 'Sharing' tab now which gives you the options. If you now 'Add A Printer' in your 2nd PC/Laptop , it should find and install the drivers across the network.

Not sure about the op's question re. scanning across the network though , not tried it yet ..

Here is the best way I've found to ensure things work. Copy all of the files from your install CD to your computer, then copy the Windows 7 driver folders over them. Then, run the msetup4 file and do a custom install. Only install the drivers/apps that you downloaded from Canon. It worked perfectly for me.

If you don't have the install disc, then install the network tool, easy photo print, my printer, and mp navigator before you install the printer drivers. Remember that if you don't have your printer already registered on your network, you'll have to plug in via USB to properly configure the printer for network access.

The key to getting my Brother MFC-7440N scanner to work was to change the scanner properties from "Specify your machine by name" to "Specify you machine by address" an make sure the correct IP address was specified. In Win 7 it wasn't easy to find the dialog box to perform this. Click on the start button, search for "scanners" and then select "View scanners and cameras". Select your scanner/printer and click on "Properties". In the Properties dialog box, click on the "Network Setting" tab and make the appropriate selection.

This might work for the Canon problem as well.

The same fix worked for Vista. "Scanners and Cameras" is found in the Control Panel.

Has anyone figured out how to get the network scanner driver functioning WITHOUT the CD? I can't seem to get it. It seems like everything on the CD is available for download, but I can't figure out what the CD does that the driver installers don't.

It's highly annoying to need the CD to do this, especially since they are older drivers.

I had the same problem. Called Canon and they told me that only some of their Multifunction units can be shared over the home network - mine was not one of them. Maybe you want to verify with Canon what the story is for your model.

Well I can get network scanning to work fine with no problems ONLY if I run the setup wizard from the CD. I'd like to not have to do that. Something about the CD installer registers the scanner driver with the IP port, and it doesn't happen with the downloaded driver packages.

Canon posted a new driver on February 1:

MX 850 series MP Driver Ver.1.01 for Network (Windows 7 x64/Vista64)
    mx850swin64ns101ea24.exe

It installs both the driver and the IJ Network Utilities and it finds your printer on the network WITHOUT the CD or a USB connection.

I ran this on Windows 7 x64 and it configured my Printer, Fax, and Scanner across my network without any hassle.

I installed the IJ Network Scan Utility and MP Navigator and got network scanning to work just fine on my Canon MX860. You initiate the scanning from the scanner or from MP Navigator. TWAIN network scanning also works well. I tried it with Irfanview.

Scanning On Cannon MX850 Is No Problem

Got the impression that it is difficult

Spoke to Cannon's Services and the problem is no longer an issue

I have the Cannon MX850 installed on the Network via a LAN cable

Now Cannon MX850 can be used for scanning, faxing and printing

All you need is the latest software from Cannon

Yep, all is fine now. They got their act together after Windows 7 caught on.
