    Problem initializing RAID 1


    I just built a computer and I'm having a problem seeing and also initializing my RAID. I set up my two SATA 232 GB drives in BIOS as a raid. I also went into IMSM and created a RAID 1 volume with those two drives. The problem is when I look for my drives in "my computer", only my IDE drive shows up with it's three partitions (C,D,E). When I open Intel Matrix Storage Console, it sees the drives as a RAID, status: normal. In Device Manager, it says it's working properly and under Volumes, the following is listed: Disk: 0, Type: unknown, Status: not initialized, Partition style: not applicable, Capacity: 238472 MB, Unallocated space: 0 MB, Reserved space: 0 MB. I need expert advice, please.

    Assuming that your OS is on the raid you need to Google for "initialise".

    Hi ineedhelp29,

    I have two approaches for you, they both presume that the RAID is configured correctly. If you can;' find the RAID drive in one of these solutions then we need to look at the RAID config)

    DISK MANAGEMENT
    Go to run and type in diskmgmt.msc, this will open disk management. If you can see your RAID disk here, you can right on it and mark it as active, format it, or what ever is required.

    DISK PARTITION UTILITY
    If not then use the diskpart utility. I am presuming that the drives are empty.... if not then don't do this and let me know.
    - Open an elevated CMD prompt (right click on CMD and select RUN as Administrator)
    - Type diskpart to enter the disk part utility
    - Type list disk to list yoru current drives
    - Find your RAID disk and note the disk number, now type select disk x (where X is your RAID drive). If you are in RAID 0 remember to look for the total amount of the 2 drives added together. IF RAID 1 then just look for a drive of the size of one of your drives.
    - Type clean.
    - Type create partition primary to create the partition.
    - Now make the partition active by typing active.
    - Format the RAID format fs=NTFS quick
    - Finally type Assign to allocate a drive letter and away you go.

    Thanks for the assistance. Yes, it was a simple solution. I simply had to right click on "computer" in the start menu and initialize the drives. Your suggestions was another way to the same solution. Thank you everyone!

    Really? Fantastic, I never knew that the option was available there too. I'll look out for that next time.
