USB Boot - Not For Installation

    hi

I want to flash my BIOS and to do this, I need to boot to a USB stick. I have used the BootFlashDOS utility to make my USB stick bootable, copied across the new BIOS and AFUDOS.EXE. When I reboot, I hit ESC which give me the option to select my USB drive to boot, but that's as far as it goes.

I went back to windows and looked at the USB drive and there is no CMD.EXE on it, only MSDOS.SYS and IO.SYS.

I even thought of using the old method whereby you format the drive you want using the /s switch, but that does not appear to be the way to create a bootable drive.

I have read many posts, but almost all of them show creating a stick comntaining Windows 7 install files.

I am not wanting this so I can install Windows 7, so please don't reply with those instructions. I merely have Windows 7 64bit installed and want to be able to boot to a command prompt in my USB flash drive to flash my BIOS. I am loathe to do it from within the Windows environment.

    Any suggestions gladly accepted.

Why? It is much safer to flash BIOS from an OS.

The fail rate drops to around zero, only if there is a power outage.

Of course, a failed BIOS flash is fixed by flashing the BIOS.

And your proof of such an outlandish statement is where? Please, you then followed it up with an endless conundrum that is beyond me!

No offence, dude, but I asked something pretty specific and you chose to ignore my question and give your opinion on another matter entirely.......why? Why is it you think your opinion is something of interest to me?

To clarify to others, though I now would hazard a guess that this answer may deter you, when I ran AFUWIN within the Windows 7 64bit environment, it returned an error message saying it wanted to add a particular switch to the BIOS upgrade that I knew nothing about. I am not happy about this and so quit the utility.

Does that give you a heads up greg, you rocker, that perhaps not all BIOS upgrades are treated equal? Most utilities do not even work in the Windows 7 64 bit environment. I know that AFUDOS does not, which is why I tried the Windows version.

Now, if there is someone who knows a way to do what I initially asked, I would seriously appreciate the help. If, however, you think your opinion on another matter is a better way to go, then feel free to add that as instead.

    Regards

This will allow you to boot into a DOS command line.

MS-DOS Bootable Flash Drive - Create

Just place the BIOS Installation files (Setup.exe) onto the flashdrives root, and run the installer via command line.
