Trouble with External HDD

Hi, I'm new here. Anyhow, here's the problem; Any time I move or rename files on my external HDD windows pops up a "file not found" box and I have to press try again for it to work. It's quite annoying and I would like to fix that. This wasn't always the case, it started a 2-3 weeks ago and I have no idea why. I've run chkdsk and even defragged it with O&O, but this did nothing.

The drive is a Maxtor 6 L250R0 IDE drive connected through a IDE to USB adapter.

Any ideas?

How many un powered USB devices do you have? any more than 3-4 and you are asking for problems

None, My USB hub wasn't powered however I decided to power it just to see if that had any impact on the drive. There were no changes...

This is my usb layout:
USB1 -> USB Blue-tooth Plug (Keyboard & Mouse)
USB2 -> USB Hub

USB Hub 1 -> Multifunction Printer (Powered off when I don't use it.)
USB Hub 2 -> IDE2USB Adapter with separate power source.

I do not believe there's anything wrong with the adapter or the HDD, as both work just fine in Mac OS X 10.5. Also there is no change between connecting the HDD directly to my MacBook or the USB Hub. I also use the same adapter for a DVDRW drive without any problems.

Edit: Updated my system specs...

If you can copy all your files to another temporary HDD, you could format your external HDD, then copy all your files back on your HDD. That might help.

I doubt that, noticed yesterday that the same problem occurs on network shares that I have write access on. This is most probably a windows 7 bug of some sort.

Though if I had another 200 GB of free space on another HDD I'd try formatting...

I guess you tried a clean install?
Maybe its just that win7 on a macbook doesnt work so well (yet)
But i though it was no problem.. I'll get a macbook aswell in about 3 months and want to try the same thing so i hope its not ;)

I haven't tried a clean installation, Haven't got the HDD space to save what I don't want to lose.
As for Win7 not working "as well" on a MacBook, That's not likely as the hardware is the same as a PC nowadays.
And as far as I know there are no other bugs/flaws/drabacks.
Everything works just fine.
The graphics are even slightly better then in OS X 10.5.
