    External Hard drive

    Hi,

I have a hard-drive that I placed inside an enclosure and when I plug it to my usb it doesn't find it.

When I plug it to my other computer that is running same OS (windows 7) it works fine, it finds it. Please advice why it is not working on my other pc. What I need to do for my PC to find the item?

    Thank you,

Maybe it had been unactivated by a setting you made...check first that All your others usb ports are working and check in your power plan if you did set as "unactivated" (default setting for AC powered):

hi there, Thanks for your help, it is activated. All usbs are working perfectly, I check by plugging in something else. I noticed when I plug in the harddrive usb, The external appears in th Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers. So it does find it but it doesnt appear in my computer folder. Any ideas why is that?

    Thanks,

When you say "plug it to my other computer", then are you plugging the drive into an external usb port on the other computer?

The following link will provide with the info you need to fill in your system specs. The system specs help us make educated suggestions for you.

If the drive fails in a usb enclosure but is fine when installed in the box, looks like it's time for a new enclosure...

Sorry for the confusion. I have a harddrive 3.5 , bought an enclosure and use it as an external hard drive. The enclosure is working perfectly because when I plug it to my other pc, it works fine. IT reads and runs. But when I plug it to my other system it doesn't. It's a new system and I think I need to download something, not sure what... some kinda driver, maybe?

    Thanks,

Try looking in Administrative Tools, Computer Management,, Disk management .....like in the snip below, and see if it shows up there. Mine was showing up on the bottom there recently, right above where the CD drive shows in my snip.....it showed as Disk 1.....we had to go through and remove every trace of it from the computer.

After that, plugged it back in, and it re-installed itself, and now it's just fine!
