Tried the sfc/scannow. Following msg: "Sys Repair Pending Requires Reboot to complete". Tried three times with reboot each time to allow "repair". First two tries chkdsk ran and said all fine. Third time chkdsk did not run and I thought maybe "repair" done. Only way I know to check is by trying sys restore. Would not restore.

I figure the "repair pending" is some half a>>ed repair HP tried. Knew I should have bought a ZT

Not all files were photos. Some documents and WinSys32config. Some settings. Favorites. Quite a mixed bag. Total of 19

Tried sfc/scannow. Following msg "Sys repair pending, requires reboot to complete". Tried three times with the reboot in between tries. "Repair" still pending. 19 corrupt files. Two were JEPGs, some documents, settings and one was IExplore, exe, version 8.0.7600.16385.

I figure the "repair" is something HP tried when I contacted them. Knew I should have
    bought a ZT.

Sorry about the duplication. Didn't realize first were posted on 2nd page.

No. Pre installed by HP. Just off the shelf dummy. First PC was custom built 486/66 with awsome 250mb hard drive. Nothing was ever going to be faster. Then came Pentium 90 and the rest is history. Have wanted to build my own since then but haven't. Pushing 70 and don't know if I ever will. Thanks for the idea. Unless someone comes up with a "magic wand" fix, will do a sys recovery. Can replicate most that will be lost. Most difficult part is dealing with Norton. Will probably dump them anyway for AVG. Price is right.
