mjs303, welcome to the forums

Both the card reader and the USB use the same interface, so apparently is the USB interface that has a problem.

Can you check your Device Manager for any problematic device?

When you first attached the docking station, it may have downloaded a driver that is inappropriate for your system. I suggest you go to the HP/UK site and find the original drivers. Even if Device manager tells you that the devices work correctly, that is no guarantee that they really do.

ok i think the first thing to do is a system restore prior to when you installed the docking station System Restore in the meantime i will search for new drivers for you

either the drivers got screwed with or the card reader has just failed. recently factory quality control with media card readers has been an issue so i wouldnt be surprised if the think just doesnt work anymore. first thing to do is make sure the drivers are in line

  1. simple thing to do is by doing system restore.
  2. Other thing you can do is by uninstalling the old driver of the sd card, reboot and let windows install the driver automatically when you plug in your sd card again.
  3. if the problem persist ,we go for the updating driver option based on your pc model and sd card driver manufacturer
