Could you go into device manager and see what controllers are enabled.
This is an example of mine (desktop), yours will be similar.
My Jmicron is my external eSATA controller.

An eSATA connection can be a real pain, as you already know. Cable lengths, power issues, enclosure limitations, the list goes on.

Just for info, is there a reason why you don't want to use the usb? No worries just wondering! I'll post back if I can think of anything else.

In Disk Management does it say NTFS or RAW for the drive?

My external eSata drive not seen.
I had an external eSata drive installed and working in an Akasa enclosure. It all worked well until I had to change my 2 computers around, I had to uncable the laptop to which it is connected, When I reconnected it, the external drive wasn't picked up by Win 7 but after a lot of faffing around it...

BSOD 4gb ram - Works fine with 2gb
4gb ram bsod on startup or a few minutes later. I tried every combination slots and sticks have no problems. (2 slots, 2x 2gb sticks) ---Additionally, in the little time i had on 4gb ram boot i saw that only 2,94 gb memory is usable. Is Windows 7 . . . - x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?

External eSATA drives -- anybody using them.
Hi all I was wondering if anybody is using eSATA external (note must be EXTERNAL) drives. the eSATA spec is around 2 - 3 X faster than USB2 so should be good (and switchable between macines). Any users. Cheers jimbo

I am going to buy a new external hard drive should I buy a 2 tb usb or a 1 tb esata? Will the esata be that much faster the drive slot on my dell studio 17 is an esata power usb. I am hopefully going to be buying one by tom. thanks!

External eSata HDD works at low speed..
Hi Guys. I need some advices regarding my external eSata drive. It runs at very low speed (50 MB/s) its only a 400 Mbit/s. As I know it should run at 3000 Mbit/s. Can someone help me with that...? Thanx a lot PS: I have Asus P5Q3 Delux motherB with external eSata port.
