Thank you to Mark C for the helpful advice. I tried the registry file you proposed to Maggy and it is certainly a step in the right direction for me--using a trackball on large screens.

If you ever have time some sort of reg file builder that allowed a person to specify slope of each segment of the line would be very handy!!

    All the best

    Thanks Eshan,
It was the acceleration that was causing me to drag and drop a portion of the text I was trying to highlight. It was driving me crazy as cutting and pasting code is a big part of my day.

Hmmmm, well I've just tried out the theory that windows 7 has acceleration with "enhance pointer precision" disabled...and it's not true. As a matter of fact, I've tested it for hours within windows and games likes Counter Strike...there is no acceleration if I disable the "enhance pointer precision." True, it might be because I'm using CoolerMaster's Inferno mouse...but no matter the DPI I use there is no acceleration.

    It depends on the game.

You don't say which CS version you use, but as commonly setup, you are right and they don't have acceleration.

    (Details:
CS 1.6 with -noforcemspd or -noforcemparms launch option and "Enhance pointer precision" disabled does NOT have acceleration.

CS:Source WITHOUT the -useforcedmparms launch option and "Enhance pointer precision" disabled does NOT have acceleration.)

It's not dead, it's just a little sluggish!

As far as I know, games can use a joystick two ways: via DirectInput, or the joystick emulates a mouse.
Your game seems to use the joystick as an emulated mouse.
You might try your game config or support groups or manual to see if it can support a joystick directly through DirectInput.

Increasing the sensitivity in the builder makes the curve steeper. Easiest is to forget the curve and know that larger sensitivity values make the pointer or in-game view move FASTER and smaller sensitivity values are SLOWER.

There is some chance that a UI that allows you to pull and push the curve about might happen in the future. I have a prototype (In Excel) already written, but want the user to be able to immediately test the new curve without having to save it, import it, reboot and then find it is crap and needs tweaking...

    Hello every readers.

MarkC i followed all the instructions in your .txt file, and i still notice some acceleration. I can tell by the FPS games i do play, before on Windows XP had around game sensitivity of "2.8" to make a 180 degree move with all acceleration disabled, now on Win 7 with the same sensitivity and with your .reg file applied it almost makes me a 360 degree move, if you could help me i would appreciate. The procedure i made was clicking the .reg file appropriated to my dpi after unticking the "enhace pointer precision" option.

PS: i used the CPL MouseFix on the Win XP Back than.

    Thanks in advance.

CPL has a different in-built sensitivity (scaling) than the MarkC fixes, and XP scales mouse input differently than Windows 7 does, so those two things will cause a difference in sensitivity between XP with CPL and W7 with MarkC.

MAYBE that difference is what you are feeling? (or maybe not...)

What monitor refresh rate did you use in-game on XP? 60Hz, 75Hz, 120Hz?
What Font Size did you use on XP?

(Almost always people use the standard "Small fonts" =96 size on XP, and you would know if you have set it to "Large fonts" =120 or not.
Instructions at this link show how to find out the XP font size:
How to change the DPI on XP.
If you are not sure, you almost certainly have the standard "Small fonts", 96.)

You can calculate the CPL sensitivity (scaling) from your XP in-game refesh rate and font DPI:

    CPI sens = 4.24 * Refresh / DPI / 3.5

For example, if you had a 60Hz monitor and the standard "Small fonts" (96) DPI:

    CPI sens = 4.24 * 60 / 96 / 3.5
    ~= 0.757
(That means that 1 count of on-mouse-pad mouse movement caused 0.757 pixels of desktop pointer movement with CPL.)

    If you had "Large fonts" (120), then CPI sens = 4.24 * 60 / 120 / 3.5 = ~0.606.
(That means that 1 count of on-mouse-pad mouse movement caused 0.606 pixels of desktop pointer movement with CPL.)

The MarkC fixes are exact 1-to-1, so 1 mouse count = 1 desktop pixel, which is a larger movement than you were getting with CPL on XP.
(32% larger when using "Small fonts" and 60Hz and 65% larger when using "Large fonts" and 60Hz.)

If the above above explains the differences you feel, then I suggest setting your in-game sensitivity a bit lower so that you get the same response you had with CPL/XP.

If the above does not explain what you feel, then I'm not sure.
If, for testing, ou turn EPP ON, set Control Panel to the middle 6/11 and then MouseMovementRecorder.exe show no accel, then the fix IS working, and the explanation must be somewhere else...

Thanks MarkC, that explains it i guess! i had 60hz and default dpi on xp, which is the "small fonts". But than how am i feeling a little acceleration still? :/ (placebo?)
I guess the fix is working, anyways i had the same sensitivity and feeling with the EPP unticked (Win 7 already) before i clicked the fix, and i readed that there is still some little acceleration with EPP off in win 7. Placebo ;p ? probably, but getting on my nerves
    Thank You

PS: got a Logitech MX-518 mouse
