    Memory upgrade

    Hi,
Please can you help me install 4gb of RAM on to my computer?
I have installed win7 64. At the same time I have tried to increase the memory from 2gb to 4gb on my Asrock 939s56-m mobo.
    The DOS says 4096 ok
    The Bios says 4096
    The win7 64 says installed memory 2gb
The memory is new from Crucial. The memory can be moved around in pairs into the new slots, but it only records 2gb.
In MSCONFIG BOOT ADVANCED OPTIONS it records 0 maximum memory or gives the choice of 258. If I uncheck the maximum memory it BSOD's. When in safe mode it sometimes gives the 4096 option in MSCONFIG, but not in standard mode.
The Bios is up-to-date for the cpu and mobo: AMD 64 3700+ (Bios P1.30).
    It contains a Radeon X1600/X1650.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can we get a screen shot of your task manager with performance tab open?

    Thanks

Sorry, I don't know how to do the screen shot.
    The physical memory says
    total 2047
    cached 1033
    available 1138
    free 152

What does your System Screen have for memory? Go to Start>Control Panel>System and it's listed as Installed Memory (RAM)

another thought is to do this.....

Press Windows Key and the r and type msconfig into the run command box.
On the "Boot" tab, click on advanced options.
Make sure the box labeled "Maximum Memory" is NOT checked. If it is, deselect it, save and restart.

I tried that and the system crashed and went into windows error recovery. I tried to go into standard mode, but that crashed again. Went into safe mode, ticked the memory box in the advanced section of boot and 4096 came up. Saved, booted up again and the system showed 2gb again.

Is the new ram at least close or the same specs as the original ram (speed, latency, density, voltage, etc)?

Also had a quick look at the manual for your motherboard,

    ASRock > Products > 939S56-M

and there are a few options, but one that stood out that may help. This one,

    Memory upgrade-asrockmemory.jpg

if you haven't yet, change it to enabled.
