    Device connect/failed to connect

Every few minutes, I get a fraction of a second delay while some device in the system tries to connect and then another second when I get the failed to connect. I set up the sounds so that I know that it is the
device connect and failed to connect. Is there some way I can identify the device that is trying to connect?

    thanks

For one thing you can type event viewer, in search, and see what error was happening at the time involved.

Which may also help us solve the problem

A way to determin the cause is a clean boot.

Both used in conjuction will help us solve the problem

Richard. Thanks for the info,. The event viewer doesn't show anything occurring at the time the system gives me the delay.
I'm a bit afraid to follow the "clean boot" procedures since this pc is a gateway. I dont have the original windows 7 cd and I'm afraid that if something screws up, I'll be in deep doodoo.. anything else I can do? Thanks

If the event viewer shows no errors, it means it is just a slow load up of a program. The only way I know how to determine is to do a clean boot or a diagnostic startup using msconfig; but that is essentially the same as clean boot from where you are.

My first test to determine a problem program is clean boot. I of course would not push the issue because if something did go wrong at this point, I would feel awful. My only suggestion is wait for others to come, by. I hope they do for your sake and I will learn something new, too.

Edit: Turn off your antivirus that often causes these type of problems, see how that goes.
Fill out your system specs. Dont know them use this

Richard. I think I got it... I had a mouse connected as well as the touchpad on the pc. Although there was no conflict shown in device manager, when I disconnected the mouse, the problem stopped..

thanks for you help and time

You mark it solved by clicking on the triangle upper right and then typing solved.
    Glad that it worked out.
