    BIOS Problem

    Dear Friends

My brother has a pretty old PC Pentium D with windows 7 installed. He has a 775-Dual-VSTA mobo from Asrock which as a PCIE x16 clocked at x4. Recently I noticed that his bus was being clocked to x1 instead, restarts usually fix the problem and usually don't. Now today he went to switch on his PC and bios read 3GB Ram when he only has 2GB Ram installed!!! and ofc pc can't boot, after a few resets, the monitor would not switch on.

What do you think is the problem?

I am suspecting a CMOS problem.

    Need help pls

You could certainly clear the CMOS or load optimized defaults to see if it has an effect. If he has been in there changing settings, that may just work.

If that doesn't work, you might consider that the board "may" be going bad.

    Just something to think about.

    Good luck.

I got some good news!. After changing the CMOS battery and reseating, the RAM, and VGA the pc successfully booted into windows, and is currently running stable. Hope it remains this way :) though the only thing the vga still seems to be underclocked (running at x2 instead of x4) any ideas?

    Thanks

Guys after 1 week of testing the PC, he has had no crashes, and the vga seems to have settled back to x4 every boot (as it should be).

    Thanks all for your replies
