HDD seen on USB and not on 1394

I am having issues with External Hard Drive. Maxtor III 500gb.

When connected by firewire the drive is not seen. Works fine on USB.

Worked fine on both Firewire and USB on Vista.

Suggestions on how to fix the firewire issue?

Are you hot-plugging this drive or booting up while it's connected? While you should be able to hot-plug Firewire, it may be too fussy for some reason.

I have two Seagate Firewire drives on my HTPC running Windows 7. They work well, though I've never tried to hot-plug them.

    Bye.

    Thank you.

I have tried again and all seemed OK drive discovered on boot/hot-plug. Worked fine UNTIL hybernation.

Drive is no longer apparent when coming out of hybernation.

    Further to last post.

Drive is not seen on restart or cold boot.

Drive had to be unplugged, system restarted without it and then replugged into different port before being seen again.

This may not be related, but I had a problem similar to this when I built that HTPC with Firewire. I used an old Firewire card that I'd pulled from an old PC. It exhibited some of the odd characteristics you cite. A quick trip to Fry's for a new Firewire card fixed the system right up. So, is this on-board Firewire with a fairly new motherboard or is it with a Firewire card?

    Bye.

Works absolutely fine with Vista. Only apparent with 7.

Check your settings to see if Firewire is set to be powered off to save power- if so, try changing that setting and seeing if it makes a difference.

What is the driver date for the driver for your Firewire hub in Device manager?
