Lexar FW800 Compact Flash Reader Eject Problem

I have been having the weirdest problem lately and was curious if anyone had any suggestions.
I have a Mac Pro running Windows 7 64 bit. I use two Lexar UDMA Firewire 800 compact flash readers to transfer large amounts of images to my external RAID drive.
I have been using Unibrain's firewire drivers for Windows and have been getting smoking speeds. My problem comes when I try to eject the compact flash drives from the readers. I click on the safely remove devices icon and choose to eject each assigned drive letter. Sometimes it will eject the drive with no problem. Other times, I either get an error message stating that something else is using the drive and cannot eject or I never get the "safe to remove" message.
When I click in Windows explorer a weird thing happens. In the location bar I get a green progess bar moving across the screen. Also at this time the drive icons on my computer, which normally show a capacity gauge and any capacity info, only show the drive letter and very basic info. I am basically locked out of explorer and when I try to end process tree in task manager, explorer will not close. I have also tried to restart my computer and it freezes on the logging out screen. I am forced to power down my computer and reboot. This prompts me with the "Windows did not shut down properly..."

I am really confused why windows keeps having these issues with the firewire readers.
Any suggestions as to what is locking up these cards and explorer? I do have diskeeper running on the computer. Not sure if that would lock up the devices.
Any idea what to check for?
