A good printer would be? Hi all,
Im looking for a good printer that doesn't waste ink, is high in resolution (prints details well) and black and white. So i don't need it for professional things. I just need to print text and a couple of simple pictures that's all. By the way, i think i should be looking for a laser printer right? So what model, what brand do you recommend? | My System Specs |

I would also recommend Canon. Any model that fits your criteria should be pretty good, I have two different models and both work great. I used to have two HP printers and both were horrible... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware X51 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 @3.40GHz Memory 8.00GB DDR3 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 w/1.0GB RAM Monitor(s) Displays BenQ XL2420TX Screen Resolution 1920x1080@120Hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800 Mouse Razer Orochi PSU 330-watt Hard Drives 1TB Internet Speed Campus Internet |

You can get a good Canon all-in-one for a pretty good price if you search and I would never switch to another brand having experienced them all, Canon beats them hands down for performance, reliability and cheapness of operation, inks etc. They have pretty high resolution printing so a laser printer may not really be necessary.
My current MX300 was bought new on eBay. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware® ALX X58 OS Vista Ult SP2/Win 7 Ult SP1/Win 8 Pro w/MC/x64/XP SP3 x86 in VM CPU Intel® Core™ i7-975 Extreme O/C to 4.02 GHz, 8MB Cache Motherboard Asus® P6T Deluxe V2 X58 LGA1366 Memory 12GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 6 x 2048MB Graphics Card 1792 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 295/Hauppauge HVR2250 TV Tuner Sound Card Onboard Soundmax® High-Definition 7.1 Performance Audio Monitor(s) Displays Samsung XL2370 LED backlit 23" W/S 2ms response time Screen Resolution 1920 X 1080 Keyboard Microsoft® Wireless Entertainment 8000 + Logitech® G15 Wired Mouse Microsoft® Wireless Laser 8000 + Logitech® G9 Wired PSU Alienware® 1200 Watt Multi-GPU Case Alienware® P2 ALX Chassis with AlienIce™ 3.0 Video Cooling Cooling Alienware® High-Perf. I've noticed no difference since switching. |

I have a Canon MP830 all in one and an old hp deskjet 6122 and love them both.
So the question is:
1. How much quality printing do you do? Like pictures and Layouts that require quality work
2. How often do you use or will use your printer?
The each color cartridge for Canon contain 5ml of ink except the black which is 10-15ml's
I use my old hp for quick drafts of photo's and document work and the Canon for quality photo's and layouts and T-shirt making.
Shop around as printer's are cheap but it's the replacing of ink that get costly. I get my ink refills on line at a huge discount so I can save money.
Good luck and let us know what you have purchased. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP M9077c OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CPU Intel(R)Core(TM)2 quad Q6600@2.4GHz 2.39GHz Motherboard ASUSeK Memory 6GB DDR2 6400 Graphics Card GeForce 8500/512MB Sound Card Realtek High Def Audio Monitor(s) Displays HP w2408 LCD 24" widescreen Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Keyboard MS wireless Inteli Mouse MS wireless Inteli Cooling 6 pack of Bud |

I agree with all the posters who recommend Canon, I also have an MP 830 and it is a work horse and since I take a lot of digital images with my dSLR camera's it helps me a lot by having a built in media reader and the ability to add photo paper in the second paper feeder w/o having to swap paper in the primary feeder tray. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DELL XPS Studio 435T OS Vista 64 Ultimate, Windows 7 64 Ultimate, Ubuntu 9.10 CPU i7 975 3.3 GHz Extreme (Factory OC'd to 3.6 GHz) Motherboard DELL provided Memory 18 Gb Tri-Channel 1066 Graphics Card ATI 5970 2048 Mb Sound Card X-Fi Extreme Gamer Monitor(s) Displays Vizio 37" HD-TV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard Logitech Performance K350 Wireless Mouse Logitech Performance MX Wireless PSU DELL Provided 475 watts Case DELL Cooling 3 fans Hard Drives 1.5 Tb HDD

HP laserjet if you are mainly printing text and black and white pictures.
HP Color Laserjet if you print mainly text and simple color pictures.
Canon or Epson Inkjet if you plan on printing photo quality pictures.
I have all of the above and use them the way I described above.
HP Color Laserjet 4500DN
Pros: sharp text
Cons: $500 for a full Toner Set
HP P1006 mono Laserjet

Epson 1280 Wide Format Inkjet
