Laptop Overheating!! Help!

Hi,

Ok, so I am not any sort of genius, or anything, but I think my Compaq Presario F700 is overheating....After being left on for a few hours, it will just randomly switch off, without any warning at all. I have recently bought a new battery, and it is no different. It is EXTREMELY annoying, as it never recovers any of my data..
Any idea's...

Thanks
Jake:D

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) to check the temps. If it is overheating there are a few things you can do to clean the isides that will lower the temps.

As zigzag3143 stated download the 2 progs he suggested , then clean the inlet and exhaust outlets with a can of compressed air, its a build up of dust that creates the problem , also download "speedfan" google it ,you will be able to control your fans easier that way ;)

Ok, so I already have CPU-Z, any use? I will download GPU-Z now. What should the normal temperature be? I will also get this speed fan thing.

Using my expert knowledge of SpeedFan, I seem to off gathered that there is a tick next to core when it is under 50 degrees. That happened once or twice when I took my laptop out to the garden. It was about 64, or so inside....

yes i suggested using a can of compressed air ,just blow it through the vents , how long have you had your lappy , have yuo ever cleaned the vents ? do you feel confident enough to open the case ?:)

Had the lappy 2 years or so, never done anything with the vents, and I think I could open it up.

HPs generally report higher temperatures and tend to run hotter than most other laptops. It's entirely possible that your laptop is overheating. One thing I would suggest is cleaning it inside and out.. Get rid of all the dust, then get rid of everything you don't actually use, or better yet, erase your hdd and reinstall windows.

ok if you decide to open the case , be careful all the components are tightly placed , what i would suggest is while the case is open carefully remove the cpu heatsink and gpu heatsink and reapply some thermal compound such as AC3 orAS5 then clean all the fans and fan vents then you should be good to go ;)

You can either try to use RightMark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) v2.35.exe to low down your voltage:
Download. CPU Rightmark
