    Thanks for the help people!

I recently ordered a 5600+ and may order an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro.

stormy13@ You've made me panick now xD. I found the BIOS update, but it doesn't say anything about W7 compatibility.

Not trying to panic you, more like forewarn. There have been a couple of others here that tries the same thing with a HP/Compaq/Dell/etc, and like yours lists the range of CPU's that that model of computer supported and/or came with. Here is one of them,

    Need processor installation advice please!!

So like I said don't be surprised if it doesn't work despite the fact that by all rights it should. HP does some strange things with their bioses, and will go so far as to lock out the faster CPU for no other reason than because they can.

On the last post, the guy said he did a live chat with someone from HP, and he/she said that the CPU wasn't supported by the mobo.

    But I get your point

One more; would it be ok to download and install a BIOS update that is compatible with Vista but says NOTHING about W7?

That comment from the HP live chat was pure CYA on his part. There is nothing special about the black edition CPU's from AMD, the only difference between them and the non BE ones is the BE has an unlocked multiplier.

As for the bios, I wouldn't worry about that. If it is OK for Vista it will be OK for 7.

honestly ur better off spending a bit more and getting a new motherboard

i have one of these Newegg.ca - ASRock K10N78M-PRO AM3/AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

amazing price for something that will support the new phenom II x6 out of the box. also it supports ddr2 533mhz-1066 meaning u will be able to use your existing ram.

    +1
I had a Dell E521 that listed up to a 5600 but I found an 89w 6000 (when they 1st came out), took 6 months to find it. Bios wouldn't accept it and Dell had dumped amd by that time so I was out of luck.

Can someone reccommend me a CPU cooler for less than £30 or $50? I won't be doing too much overclocking, but my stock coooler is crap.
