Windows 7 64 bit Only Detecting 2gb of ram? Hello, I'm new here. If this is posted in the wrong section, I apologize.
Today when i booted my computer, it said "windows has detected a decrease in memory" I turned off my computer, unplugged it, took out all 3 sticks of ram, put them back in...
Still, windows is only detecting 2gb of ram when I really have 3gb of ram.
Performance Index for ram went down from 5.9 to 5.5
Can someone tell me what to do so that windows recognized all 3gb of ram.

It is giving this behavior, because likely, one of your memory sticks, or one of your memory slots has died. Swap them around to find out which it is, and then you can go about replacing that part. Hopefully, it will be one of the sticks, as that would be much simpler than replacing the mobo. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 Memory 12 GB Patriot Extreme DDR3-1333 Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 470 Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp 2209WA PSU OCZ ModStream 700W Case CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 240 GB, WD5001AALS, WD7501AALS |

how many sticks of ram? one could have gone bad which can happen. to test this try booting with each stick. if one fails post (boot up test), then its bad.
you can also check the bios to see how much ram it sees. if it also sees 2gb, then im right. no sticks are bad, then reseat all the ram sticks. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number ATX Custom Build 2012 OS Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i3-2100 @ 3.10GHz Motherboard Intel DH67CL desktop ATX Memory 10 GB DDR3 Graphics Card Asus EAH5450 series (Radeon) Monitor(s) Displays Samsung SyncMaster 226BW, Samsung Syncmaster P2450H Screen Resolution 226BW: 1680 x 1050 & P2450H: 1920 x 1080 Keyboard HP Wireless Elite Keyboard Wireless Keyboard Mouse Microsoft Touch PSU Cooler Master Extreme Power Plus 500W Case Thermaltake V3 Black Edition Cooling stock cooling with added intake fan Hard Drives Western Digital 320 GB sata (boot), Samsung 640 GB sata, Seagate 2 TB sata (data) Internet Speed Comcast Cable business class <=18Mb {averages 12Mb} Other Info Optical drives: LG SuperMulti Blue, HP DVD 1260T

Thanks!! Welcome to Windows 7 Support.
I see that Deacon and Merkat have already given you good suggestions, I'll throw in with my 2 cents and add that since you have a custom rig check out your bios settings. We don't know whats changed in your case did you you just complete the install to Windows 7 or did you have updates and so on. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 7600 1 X64 CPU AMD PHENOM II X 550 PROCESSOR 3.1 ghz Motherboard ASUS M4A78-TE Memory Corsair 4 gig ddr 3 Graphics Card ati radeon 3300 Sound Card ati hd Monitor(s) Displays syncmaster 2033sw Screen Resolution 1600X900 60 hz refresh PSU antec_550 watt Case cooler master GLite Cooling stock_heat sink Hard Drives twin_seagates SATA's 1 TB & 500 Gig, hitachi_slimline 160 gig Internet Speed 20mbs up/ 1.5mbs down Other Info favorite child "stewie"

Suggest you run Memtest86 to see if you get any errors: Memtest86

Yep, I'd still want to run Memtest just to make sure the memory tested out okay, but it does sound like one of the sticks just wasn't seated properly. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel Core i7-2600 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 Memory 12 GB Patriot Extreme DDR3-1333 Graphics Card Nvidia GTX 470 Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp 2209WA PSU OCZ ModStream 700W Case CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced Cooling CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives OCZ Agility3 240 GB, WD5001AALS, WD7501AALS Windows 7 64 bit Only Detecting 2gb of ram? problems?
