i just added a new hdd... how do i set it up... i know how to get to disk management but then i dont know what to do

My HP laptop's fan is running awfully high. I am playing the sims 3 and I can hear the fan running on high. It will eventually go quiet then start up running on high again. Is this anything to be worried about?
