Would It be useful to have a separate "Printers" section?

Printers are sorta different from many "devices." Wouldn't it be useful to have a separate top-level section for Printers (or, did I overlook it?)

Are you referring to the "Printers and Devices" screen or device manager? My two printers are in a separate "Printers and Faxes" section in the printers and devices window?

I think the OP means there should be a separate "Printer" section here on the forums. If so, I don't think we need one.

We get stuck with trying to make USB printers work over in the networking section. The problem is that USB printers are inherently problematic. A person would be far better served by using an eithernet or wireless connection to the printer instead.

Hmmm. My intent, as "tw33k" suggests is a unique forum here. Printers are completely unique and different beasts from other devices, and integrate lots of functionality. As "chev65" points out, USB can be a beast (is it USB, or DOT4, for instance, and what's the difference?), although I certainly think it's a lot simpler than a wireless connection.

I'm only suggesting, as a newcomer to your forums, that it might prove useful to have a different forum under you main headings, because the issues with printers are not just "devices". For instance, I'm working with HP's design engineers right now on a problem with the drivers that comes with their drivers; that something you seldom have to do with, say, a Flash Drive, or a USB headset.

These are your forums, and I'm only a visitor here, so I'm sure my experience is different from yours. It was just a suggestion, for you to consider, adopt or reject as you see fit.

P.S.: I believe "Printers and Devices" (above) is actually "Devices and Printers." So, even Microsoft makes the distinction between "Devices" (upper half of the window) and "Printers and Faxes" (bottom half) in Windows 7. --cao

OK, that clears that up, I misunderstood what you meant. And yes I got it back wards, its Devices and Printers not Printers and Devices.

I agree. I think if anyone is having printer problems they should be contacting the manufacturer's support page instead. It's not really a Microsoft or Windows related issue.
