I installed the RC1 of windows 7 and the new changes they made are really starting to make my experience painful; I have a sony NWZ-E436F mp3 player, one of those not very popular obscure little things that only a few drivers
exist for. With the beta build 7000, plugging in the mp3 player would use software that was built into the device for managing the file transfer etc, or I'm not sure if it was the old portable device manager, any ways it worked great. Now however, plugging in the player leads to windows' own manager taking over and giving me a few options for what to do including managing media, browsing files, changing options etc. And the main part that I need: managing media, will only let me use windows media player or the import pictures and videos manager, both of which are garbage in terms of what I need; WMP doesn't sync my library properly.
I've been trying to get the old drivers back, but as soon as the pc detects the player after uninstalling the drivers for it, it automatically reinstalls the drivers. At least in XP I had a choice to stop it, but now I am basically powerless, being at the mercy of those damned programmers and whoever designed this stupid UI. I can't figure out how to get it to stop auto installing and I can't install over the current drivers; windows only leaves me the option of 'updating' using it's own idea of whats recent and that means that it won't allow me to use the older and much better drivers ( I can't even determine if the older system was build into the beta or if it was running off of the mp3 player). Any ideas of how to circumvent this extremely bad UI?
