Windows 7: How to check if my DVD drive is fully functional

Is there a program to check if my DVD drive is fully functional. It's either taking a long time or that it can not make image files such as .iso, .uif, .daa etc. out of DVDs or CDs (Not for pirating purposes).

In Device Manager, go to the IDE or SATA Controller where the drive is attached and make sure it is in DMA mode. You can also benchmark and test the drive with cdspeed. (It tests DVDs, too.)

Once you've tested the drive with a diagnostic such as cdspeed, make sure to use a legitimate ISO burning software such as CDBurnerXP or IMGBurn to test ISO capabilities.

Does magiso or poweriso count as one of those legitimate program?

Also which test do I do with CD speed? I dod it extra tests but it doesn't matter because it's difference disc have difference results.

I think the problem was that the CD and DVD I chose to make a .iso image out of didn't let me, even tried it on another computer and same thing happen. So I just have to open the disc with a program such as magiso, extract everything, start a new image file and put everything from the disc to the new image file and save it and it works.
