    Defrag or not Defrag SSD's

It has always been my belief from what I have found on the WWW that you should not defrag a SSD. What are other users thought's on this or am I wrong in my research ?

I just wanted to add I have never defragged my SSD but I do use a program called Perfect Disk 11 which has the option for SSD'd to consolidate free space with out defragging which I have set to automatic.

Though defragging a SSD is not recommended. Disksweeper makes a program that apparently does the same as defragment and also optimizes speed and life.

It would be tough to disagree with your belief, Steve. I think that is what most forum members think too.

But, just to bring out some technical aspects, here is a great discussion on the subject.

Regarding that Disksweeper program, Davidtux pointed out, it not completely uncontroversial.

I don't really see the point of defragging the drive. Since there are no moving parts and access to any portion of the drive is nearly instantaneous, the benefits of having all of the data contiguous on the drive is somewhat lost.
