SSD not recognized by Win 7

It is recognized as a standard HD (indexing on, defrag enabled, yada, yada)

This is a brand new machine I just built today, why didn't Windows recognize the drive as an SSD? Should I try a reinstall? Is there someway on installation to tell Windows that the drive is an SSD? Windows also made a 100MB partition, I noticed on install.

Drive is a an Intel X25-M 80GB SSD, Windows reports drivers are up to date.

Have you reviewed the motherboard manual to verify you have the correct BIOS settings?

I tried IDE and AHCI modes. I don't see away to check if TRIM is enabled, even though its a pretty bleeding edge Mobo, I just don't see it there. I also have followed several of the sticky threads in "SSD Tweaks & Optimizations" to the letter, as given here on 7forums. Thanks for posting those, by the way :). But even after 6 different installs/reinstalls doing various things, the SSD is just a regular drive to Win7. I sort of gave up and went through the "old school" way of tweaking and disabling all of the things that Win7 shouldn't do on an SSD. Would be nice if Win7 just saw it as an SSD from the start. This is an all-new build, new mobo, new proc, new ssd, new graphics, everything is well qualified for Win7. I don't get it.

im not sure but i think windows only detects it once you run the wei thing once?
but then i did all the manual tweaks ect myself to when i installed the ssd as i did not know about how well windows recognize SSD.

as for "I don't see away to check if TRIM is enabled"

    Run > Cmd: type in
    fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify

If it returns that DisableDeleteNotify = 0, then TRIM is enabled
if DisableDeleteNotify = 1, then TRIM is disabled

also what driver are you using with the intel? the new Intel Driver is really good. id say a lil better then the Microsoft Default driver.
