AMD Phenom II x 6 1090 shows only 5 cores ! Why ?

I have recently (last month ) acquired an assembled computer

Its Configuration

AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor
ASUS M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3
8 Gb Corsair DDR-3 RAM
BIOS American Megatrends Inc Ver 1005 Date 03/08/2010
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4290
Seagate ST310005 28AS SATA HDD

Now this is a six core processor right ? Why then does my task manager show only 5 cores?

Maybe the task manager window is too small to show 6 cores? Have you tried making the window larger?

Go to Control Panel/Device Manager/Processors and see what shows up.

Seems like your processor is defective and it's only running on 5 of the cores. You might need to contact AMD or your supplier for assistance with this issue or get the chip RMA'd.

Okay I found a solution to my problem. CPU configuration in the BIOS allows you to enable ALL or 1 thru 6 of the cores. It was that simple.
