drive letter no more given automatically

till 2 days ago, when I connected a USB stick or any other USB device, it was given a driver letter automatically and a window prompted for which actions I want to do.
Now (after a windows update?), the drive doesn't receive a drive letter automatically. I have to go into disc manager a give manually a drive letter in order to be able to use the drive.

What happened and how to correct this?

    Cheers

So you went into disk management, assigned a new drive letter to the device, removed the device via the Safely Remove Hardware option, plugged it back in, and it still doesn't acquire the new letter?

    no the assigned letter remains.

What is strange, this happen for all my USB drives. I had to give them a letter manually via disk management interface.
Why is it no more automatic?
How can I remove the manually assigned letter in order to be assigned automatic again?

    Bump.....

I have the same problem. If I plug any external drive to USB or esata port, I have to use Paragon Partition or Disk Management to assign a drive letter to it. It will then show up in my window explorer.

    Any help????
