It sounds like you have 2 separate problems: The printer would not print, and now, the printer can't be found.

It sounds like you "Removed this Device" from Devices & Printers. That would uninstall the printer and the drivers. You would need to reinstall the printer drivers. Be sure to use the "Network" drivers, if you have that option, to print wireless.

Before you do this you should uninstall all traces of the old printer software and accessories.

Most printers I have installed require you to turn off the printer (disconnect it), install the drivers or software package, then turn the printer on to complete the installation.

I'm guessing that your "can't print" problem was due to an incorrectly installed driver.

On the printer's control panel you should find a menu that will display the printer's IP address.

But your issue sounds a lot like the wireless connection is bad. Either from the printer to the router or from the computer to the router. Give that a good looking over.

If the wireless signal is good, then go to the printer manufacturers website, look up the specific model of printer, then drill down till you find the "Network Installation Guide" or similar. Download it and go to the troubleshooting section and see what they say there.

I can't express strongly enough the need to uninstall every bit of any past installation when you are dealing with these kinds of issues (install gone bad). You need to attempt the installation again from a clean slate. And follow the installation steps precisely. It can make all the difference.

Is you roommate running Windows 7? Same version (32bit/64bit)?

Has the printer been added to the Homegroup? Does it have a Network name?

When printing (attempting to), if you open the print icon in the Systray, what does it say about status?

To add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer

Before you begin, make sure you know the name of the printer that you want to add. Sometimes the name is displayed on the printer itself. If the name is not on the printer, contact the printer owner or your network administrator to find out the printer's name before following the steps below.

1. Open Printers by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Printers.
2. Click Add a printer.
3. In the Add Printer Wizard, select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
4. In the list of available printers, select the one you want to use, and then click Next. If your computer is connected to a network, only printers listed in Active Directory for your domain are displayed in the list.
5. If prompted, install the printer driver on your computer. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
6. Complete the additional steps in the wizard, and then click Finish.

Tips

• Available printers can include all printers on a network, such as Bluetooth and wireless printers or printers that are plugged into another computer and shared on the network. Make sure that you have permission to use these printers before adding them to the computer. For more information, see What are printer permissions?
• It's a good idea to print a test page to check if the printer is working correctly. For more information, see Print a test page.

The Systray is the section of your Taskbar next to the clock where icons for running programs appear.

Since you and your roommate are running the same OS and are using the same printer it should be possible to compare the settings on his computer to yours. It's possible you will find that something is different.

If we assume that you have loaded the drivers properly, and the OS still can't "see" the printer, then I would suspect that you will find the differing settings in the Network and Sharing Center, the properties for the printer in "Devices and Printers", or Homegroup.

If the problem is still that the print job freezes, you may be having a problem with the Print Spooler. You can use the SEARCH tab in this forum and search for "Print Spooler". A sample post is here:
