Hi Grahame. Check out this link.
Lexmark 2500 drivers for Windows 7 RC Build 7100 - Vista Forums
I have an x1150 that wouldn't work with Windows 7, but with the Vista x64 driver it would (and I am running windows 7 x86)!
That was found after a google search, but unfortunately, is on a Vista forum instead of here where it is most needed.

It is important to note that Microsoft was smart about the driver issues. Almost all vista drivers will work on Windows 7 for most devices. Sometimes you must run the driver installation under Windows Vista compatibility mode. Worked for my G5 Laser mouse.

MasterMegaManX-when I first tried to install my driver I did it in Compatibility mode (using a Vista 32 bit driver). It worked, but there were some issues (my printer kept saying there was a paper jam when there clearly wasn't- annoying to say the least!)
I still have some issues and found that there is one feature with the printer that isn't working with Windows 7, but it's not a big deal.
I am sufficiently happy with Windows 7 that I can handle a few driver issues.

I had the same issue. I followed instructions from another post: download Vista 64 drivers from Lexmark, rename .exe to .zip, extract files to separate folder, change compatibility mode on the setup.exe to run as Vista app, save that setting and run setup.exe as Administrator.
