System Reserved : Multi Boot from Logicals'

       Note

I've now finished a proper tutorial on this process at this link below.

System Reserved : Multi Boot from Logical Partitions
This was all down with diskpart and disk management.

I booted the Vista installer to diskpart created the SysResv, an extended and a data partition.

I installed Vista first, I would normally do Windows 7 first but I wanted to make sure Vista's boot files would be created to the SysResv alone before I got too far.

I then did the shrink, creates and the formats using disk management.

    Then installed Windows 7.

    Then installed XP.

I had to run startup repairs to get back into W_7; then from within W_7 I added a boot entry for XP using EasyBCD

    Enjoy! :)

That's very interesting, don't have to worry about running out of primary drives.

The system reserved partition is very handy, as it turns out.

I've used the system partition most of the time. A lot of people were saying it is bad, but I never did get a good reason why.

    Hello Dave.

It is turning out to be very useful, the only issue I can see is running out of primaries like in this snip below, some factory builds are even worse by adding a 4th primary called "Tools" and not leaving any room at all for another partition.

I had the same problem with OEMs, ran out of primary partitions.

Where were you when I needed you

Can't wait to suggest this to someone. I'm sure some, certain types of people, will blow a gasket on this one.

I like thinking outside the box.

    Good work
