installing Win7 on new SSD / keep old data

i currently have a 750gb drive w/ OS, everything on it. if i reinstall windows 7 on my SSD will it turn the OS on the 750gb to a windows.old?

i really would like to keep the data on the 750gb and just get rid of the OS on it.

Since it is a different drive, no. I'm also not sure what would be the best advice to give in this situation, so I'll let someone else take care of that part.

You may want to look at this from the tutorial section. This might be the way to go. Good luck to you

What I would do, is install windows 7 with only the SSD plug in.

theog is right. You should unplug the HDD with the current OS and then install Win7 on the SSD. Then you change the boot sequence in the BIOS to make the SSD first boot device.

But before you do that, seperate the data in your old system from the OS. You do that with a data partition. Follow my little video tutorial and you will know how to do that ( Data Partition ).

Back in Windows7 you then access that data partition and include the data folders into the Win7 libraries. That is the absolutely easiest way to do it. Once you are done with that, you can delete your old OS (e.g. with Disk management).

If you need more detail, let me know and we do this step by step.
