You probably have a password when you sign on. Go in and change your password. Do not put anything in the password space. When you boot it, it should go straight to the desktop.

thank you for responding. No, I never logged in with a password. Should I remove all user accounts like guest and keep only admin? New to Windows 7 (from XP) and a bit aggrivated all windows based pc's assume you are using your pc in a network and there is more than one user. god forbid somone uses a pc exclusivey for themselves.

    thanks.

Create a new account for yourself, do not use Administrator.
Press Win key + R and enter control userpasswords2
Select your account then uncheck Users must enter a name and password .... and click Apply
Enter your password or leave blank if you have none on the next wwindow.

Now whenever you boot, your account will be automatically logged on.
